Osomatsu-san 3rd Season
gaston26: (bd)
So I am watching Hanyou no Yashahime. So far I think that okay. I likes the new characters but this has so many unsolve questions (where are their parents?!) and plot elements that don't make lot of sense (why Kagome's grandpa is still alive?!) so this has chance to end up as a big trainwreck.

One thing that bother me do is the fight in the tumblr tag. People who bitch about who should be Sesshomaru's kid mother to the point they act like the ship police. Kagome fans who calls Kikyo a bitch and a mary-sue and stuff like that....

Maybe that because when I was a teenager I was a Kikyo fan who hated Kagome but now I moved on and I tolerate Kagome and I don't have dislike feeling for her (even if I still the show would have be been if Kikyo have been the heroine). That like I moved on while those people are still stock in the 2000s....
gaston26: (Juri x Shiori)
In last weeks, I have Utena nostalgia and go re-read Juri x Shiori fanfiction I really liked and try to found new ones.

I thought about something:

-If the story is from Shiori's pov, the author usually take into account her flaws and that she wants to change.

-If the story show Juri's pov, often Juri is a poor martyr goddess who deserves Shiori as a price.

Funny because I remember years ago on tumblr Shiori fans get accused of making Shiori blameless and blablabla. So far I only sees ONE person who did Shiori-did-nothing-wrong-Juri-is-just-awful while for other characters that happenned very often.

Anyone know where I can read Utena 20th anniversary manga chapters? They are no longer on Ohtori and I want read Juri and Miki chapters again.

And after teasing the possibilty of a harem, the author make the main female lead winning. I guess I shouldn't be surprise, but I feel disappointed because that kinda feel all the other girls's character development go in the garbage.

One think I really loved in this series is that after started as another ecchi harem, the story started to do a few original thnik such as the girls all confess to each other they loves the same guy and they stay friends and even support each other. That so much better than having the girls fight all the times between them over a boy.

I also doesn't see the point to do chapters about one of the girl proposing to the other to form a harem and the same girl doing to a 'date' with another haremette because all girls would be more confortable with the idea of a harem if they also love each other if at the end you don't have harem at all.

Still, even if I don't like the ending, I don't want waste my times and start getting angry at an author who doesn't even know I exist. I don't like the ending so I am just going to imagine my own in my head. I hope he doesn't get harrassed on the internet like that happened to the Domestic Na Kanojo mangaka.

So I read several Batman stories lately and that include the (in)famous 'The Killing Joke' that writer Alan Moore now partially dislikes.

I have mixed feelings about the story. I love Batman and Joker confrontation and the dialogue between them is very interesting. I likes the idea Batman want help Joker and Joker himself doesn't want help because he think that's too late for him. Also that seems to be one of the really rare occasion where I can sees Joker having a part of him who know what he does his horrible and try to deny that his fault because 'everyone who had my life would have turn insane so that not my fault I kill people for fun guys!''

However, everything before that confrontation isn't that great. If you don't know comics very well, know that in this story Joker want proof that he is insane because he has a bad day and that everyone who get a bad day while end like him. So he try to broke Commissionnar James Gordon and part of his plan is to...shoot Barbara Gordon and now she is paralize. She is the character who suffer the most and she is barely in the story and people barely cares about what happen to her. Worst, Joker takes pictures of her NAKED BODY. Not only that's gross, but that feel like something even Joker wouldn't do. So Barbara is another example of a woman who suffers and this has no focus on her at all.

And the act (and what happen in Joker's next appearance in the crappy Death of the family story) open the door to the edgy funny Joker you sees so often in comics this days.

In fact, the real problem is the story is about Batman-Joker so the Gordon shouldn't have been here at all. IMO, the story should has been about Joker trapping Batman in the amusement park and playing a mind game with him so he ends up as broken as Joker and so Joker wins and proof is point everyone who get a bad day while end like him.

Ironically, Alan Moore wanted to humanize the Joker and he does this in a story where Joker shoot a woman and takes picture of her body naked. Worst, he does that to an etablished characters who appeared during 2 decades at this point and have fans. Compare this to classic Joker's story from the 1970-1980s where he kills characters that only were created so they can be kill by him and he doesn't do sexual gross stuff on them.

The Killing joke? More like Killing Joker's character!

gaston26: (batman)
So I finished Batman:the animated series and The New Adventures of Batman so I decided to share some top. Here to start the worst episodes IMO.

10.The Demon's Quest part 1 and 2

I have a problem caring about Ras As Ghul. I don't hate the character, this is just unlike many other Batman villains he never excited me. The plot need to be really good to makes me cares and that story isn't. So Batman past most the first act going to other country with Ra As Ghul to found clue who kidnapped Talia and Robin and basically everyone know the answer. That could be fine if the plot was at least fun to watch. Then Batman rejet Talia's love (also here Talia is just a sex objet when in her first apparition showed how capable she was) and the second part of the plot is Batman and Robin (who do noting useful except giving a clue to Batman) fight Ras As Ghul who want saves earth by killing lot of people because huh....why the fuck he cares so much about earth? That never really explained. Joker's motivations to be evil are deeper than Ras As Ghul's !

9.Prophecy of Doom

Boring generic story where a con-artist scam really stupid rich people who believe all bullshit they learn for a fake prophet.

8.The Lion and the Unicorn

That interesting to learn Alfred's old past but the plot is basically a James Bond movie and I don't care about James Bond. Also Red Claw suck as a villain.

7.The Underdwellers

The earlier episodes that treated about social messages aren't very good or subtle thought for what I understand part of the problem is the censors removed stuff from the stories so that not all the creator's fault. Still, the villain is so over-the-top that ruin the plot for me. For comparaison, just look at Mad Love that treat about domestic abuse in a very serious and mature way. Fuck, the JOKER is more subtle in that episode than the Captain Hook wannabe.

6.The Cat and the Claw Part 1 and 2

I have a trouble about the way Catwoman is written in her earliest appareances where she is more an anti-hero than an anti-villain IMO and she is more interesting in the latter role than the former. Also Red Craw show up as the real villain of the story. Catwoman's introduction should only have her and Batman as main characters.

5.Tyger Tyger

Catwoman get kidppaned by a Doctor Moreau wannabe. BORING!!!

4.The Forgotten

Another forgettable earlier episode with a social message. The vilain is over-the-top and several plot points bugs me:

1.Bruce Wayne goes help at a homeless shelter. Okay, I loves Bruce is a caring people but why the hell he is going here? Don't he have a company to run? Also rich party to go so his playboy image doesn't get ruin? And you know all the Batman stuff? (Do he has times to slept, for that matter?) Bruce gives money to charities, no go helping himself!

2.So Bruce goes undercover and get kidnapped by like two generic goons and lost. No just no.

3.He get hit so hard he has amnesia and I just don't care.

3.The Last Laugh

Another ealier episodes. Look, maybe I should be nice to those episodes because clearly the team were trying different things until they found their voice but sorry the episode just boring me. Joker has no motivations besides stole stuff. Kinda like in the 1950s but at least he was fun in those old stories. Here, this is just boring more of the thing. Like half the episode is a big long fight between Batman and Joker.

2.I've Got Batman in My Basement

The Penguin's first appearance in the show and he has trouble fighting kids. No just no.

1.Critters

A very 'special' episode. For what I understand, you each loves the weirdess of this one or you hates this. I personally hated this. That not funny and I don't want sees Batman fights giant mutated animals.
gaston26: (batman)
So recently I rewatch Batman Tas for the first times in a few years. I don't talk about the second 90s animated Batman show that is a sequel. I still have to re-watch this. I watched the french dub because that the dub I watched when I was a kid lol.

Random thoughts:

-The earliest episodes aren't strong and that show they have trouble at first what they wanted to do. I think the show really becomes good with the Two-Face 2 parts original story.

-One thing I didn't remember was how a sadist Penguin is in the show. HE EVEN KILL SOMEONE ON SCREEN. (okay that ambigous, but that clear the guy has little to no chance to survive). For that matter, Penguin is the character who changed the most in TNBA. I don't remember he does something sadist in that show.

-Maxie Zeus is the craziest character in the show and make Ventriloquist, Joker and Two-Face looks like sane in comparaison. At least they have moment where they can face reality. Maxie Zeus is stock forever in his dillusion that he is a god.

-That version of Catwoman kinda suck untill she finally becomes a full villain. I don't care about her protecting animal.

-Joker and Ras As Ghul seems to be the only majors villains Batman would have not problem they die. For that metter, they are the two villains in the Batman Beyond era who crossed the moral event horizon (Okay, they crosses it like all the times but they were even WORST).

-That's funny to sees how Batman react differently to villains who try to reform: He doesn't believe Penguin and Riddler are going to turn good (well I guess for Penguin that makes sense since he is sane and just a big sadist asshole EXCEPT in the episode where he try to stop crimes) while he is supporting to Catwoman, Harley Quinn and Harvey Dent and in next show he will also be supportive to Ventriloquist who for that matter is the only one who manage to turn good.

-Harley and Batman interaction in Harley's Hollyday are so bitter once you watch the movie Batman Beyond: Return of the Joker. Speaking of Harley, she was just created at first because the team thought that was silly in Joker's favor that Joker get out of the cake so they wanted a girl to do this and then makes Joker do this anyway. I think that show in that episode because Harley here is clearly just a pretty face Joker hired. I mean she doesn't even now how to fight!

-That's show in last episodes the network forced the team to include Robin in all episodes since in several of them he is useless and ridiculous.

-Trial episode should have been a one hour tv movie special that can conclude the series. You will get most of the villains in the same story, they could have expended their roles and Harvey Dent should have be Batman's lawyer.

5.Everytimes Iruma reads the shojo manga to Ameri. This is just so cute.

4.When Ameri asks Iruma what is his ambition. So far, Iruma only did what other wanted and Ameri was the first one who make him think he should consider what HE want.

3.When they cook together and they are both horrible at this. In another manga, the plot would be Ameri doesn't know how to cook and get sad she isn't a good girl for not knowing how cooking for the boy she loves. Here, both the boy and the girl suck at cooking and more they were PROUD of the shitty food they made.

2.At some point, Ameri get her personality changed by an asshole and she is now the opposite of what she is. She asks Iruma if he is fine with her new personality because she wouldn't need to go back to her old personality if he is happy and then he told her she is the one who should choice what she is and he will be happy no matter her choice. HE IS SUCH A GOOD SUPPORTING BOY.

1.THEIR DATE TOGETHER (sadly Iruma probably didn't realized this was a date).

So to resume, Ameri and Iruma are too cute dorks who are perfect for each other and have an healthy relationship!
